Put any group of Women together, all ages, backgrounds and you have a menagerie of color, wisdom and personality. Add the mind-altering spirit of India and you have a recipe for fun, adventure and new friendship. Unforgettable can barely describe this journey of a lifetime.

Kerala is the most unique state in all of India.. settled by the Portugese in the 1500's, then ruled by the Dutch--they were independent until 1947 when they were brought into the country as a state. As a self-governing state they developed their own social government with accent on education; they have a 98% literacy rate. Throughout the Indian Continent, it's natural beauty and the spiritual aspirations of it's people have earned it the nickname 'god's country'. It is the birthplace of ayruvedic medicine; we will have our 'doshas' read and learn the concepts of this most ancient practice from Dr Kirin Lal--all of this in the comfort of our own home away from home in the beautiful village of Varkala.

Our House hosts an authentic Indian kitchen where you will participate in cooking classes taught by me, an upcoming cookbook author and world traveled chef.Arise early and walk down to the beach to witness the days catch and see the entire village gathering together to bring in the nets, and then immerse ourself in the tropical waters of the Lakshwadeep Sea. Enjoy yoga and massage while listening to the ocean breeze, and the neighboring birds through the palms.

In the mountains of Munnar we will pick tea with the beautiful plantation ladies. Traveling to the far North.. we will visit Waynad national Park.. Rich in bio-diversity and home to many indigenous animals..this is an example of the respect the Keralan people have for protecting their rich flora and fauna. Hike up to the Edakkal caves, where we will witness unusual prehistoric cave writings... unlike any others in the world, and possibly the oldest. We will visit ancient palaces, temples, a unique synagogue and learn a Hindu chant. This is a place where many people came to escape religious persecution and to this day they live together in peace. We also will shop for textiles and have garments made for us by our tailor friends Shaila and Annie

Dear Nancy

Thank you for making that extraordinary trip to India possible. I would not have fashioned such a trip without you. I wouldn't even have known about Kerala. Your cottage there was literally a perfect place to introduce me to India, as were the train rides, and Kochin, and Munnar. From the moment we landed in India up to the moment as I write this, I was and am infused with a different energy than I had ever experienced before, and am different because of it now, a week after returning. The trip was life altering for me, in very profound ways, and I thank you for my being able to have that experience.

I found the entire experience to be profound, including the incredible bonding that went on between all of us.

I am infused with India energy as I write to you. Again, thank you.

Nameste.

Sherri

Children express themselves through art....

Since the Tsunami disaster at the beginning of '05, the number of orphans in the South of Asia has tripled. Although the governments of these countries provide a solid education, there is no monies for extras, such as Art. This medium has always been an important means of self-expression when it comes to childrens' feelings, and can be very healing. Women's Journey to India will bring as many supplies, new or used, that will fit in the 2- 70lb suitcase maximum. Child Line Orphanages will ship these tools to Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka..and we will be delivering some of them personally during our travels in Kerala.
